Family Tree Projects

In the class Emerging Technology, we are completing several different projects about our family. In order to get the information that we needed, we interviewed two of our family members. Then we sent an email to another relative. This was usually someone that you didn't have direct contact to, or lived far away. With all of my information gathered, I then proceeded to make a diagram of my family. This showed who everyone was related to, and how they were related to someone. Using the information and my diagram I made three presentations, a prezi, infographic, and a five frame storyboard. The prezi shows fifteen different family members, and what they like to do. My infographic shows where my family originated, where they live now, diseases in the family, an interesting facts. Overall I thought that this project was so much fun to complete because we got to learn about our families.

I agree with this video because people do have smart phones and other electronic devices. I also agree with the fact that everyone is always on those electronic devices and not being out in the real world. They are not experiencing life, other than what they read or see on the internet or social media. I think that people should leave their electronic devices at home when they leave the house, and talk to their friends in person incited of in a group chat. This provides them with more social activity in person instead of on social media. People might lie about how the feel on the internet, but if you are there with them in person then you will actually know what they are feeling. People need to stay of their phones and engage in life with activities and not electronic devices or smart phones.

Read this blog post by a teacher. I mean actually read it. Take it in. Think about it. And then, write about it. What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is.

I think that this teacher really does care about his students because he feels so strongly about how school isn't about academics, its about learning how to deal/live with life. The main event is learning how to live with the harshness of life and problem solve. He thinks yes academics are important but not as important as learning how to problem solve and not letting your judgement get tamed by emotion or friends. I don't really agree with this. I don't agree with this because academics are really important to the world because you learn new tings in school and then put them out into the world. Without academics we wouldn't be as advanced as we are today.

Reflect on your stop-motion animation project. How did it go? What worked? What didn't work? If you're not finished - why? If you are finished go in to detail about the project and what you learned. Give as much detail and information as possible.

I thought my stop-motion animation went well because I had enough pictures to fill the required time, 30 seconds, and I met all the other requirements. Some things that didn't work were some of my pictures. Some of the pictures were blurry, but I didn't cut them out because I liked what was going on in the picture. This might have been a mistake because a couple people commented on a few of my pictures being blurry. From this project I learned how to use movie maker. I have tried to use it in the past, but I had people help me then. Now I know how to do it on my own.

What is your idea for your stop-motion animation? Explain yourself. Have you started taking photos? If not, when do you plan to take your photos? What is your action plan for today? What is your plan to GET SOMETHING DONE?

My idea for my stop-motion animation is taking a chair and moving it around the school with Wynne in it. I'm going to take the chair on an adventure around the school with different people in it. I haven't started taking photos yet, but I will today. My action plan for today is to take my pictures with Ruth and Wynne.

What is stop motion animation? If you don't know, look it up! Explain.

Stop Motion Animation is a technique that makes static objects appear as if they are moving, when they are really not. They are made to look like they are moving by breaking up the figures motion into increments and filming one frame at a time. This process is used in most puppet based animation.

Tyson's Daily Life

Friday, April 4

Tell me about your 5 frame storyboard. What did you like about the project? What did you dislike? Was it hard to fit a story in to 5 images? Do you think you tell a clear story? What would you do differently if you could? Explain.

My five frame story board was about my dog, Tyson's daily life. One thing that  liked about this project was that we could choose what our topic was on this project, and we could choose how to edit our pictures. One thing I disliked about this project was how there were only five frames. I disliked this because my dog does many things in his daily life, and I only got to showcase five pictures of what he does because that was my limit. It was hard to fit my pictures in five frames, like I said before, and I do think that my pictures tell a clear story. Something that I would do differently would be to edit my pictures in different ways because I used to same website and I did most of the same things on each picture, even though I tried to vary the tools I used.

What is a storyboard? If you don't know, what do you think it is? How are storyboards used? What are some different ways that storyboards can be made?

I'm not really sure what a story board is. My guess is that it is a bunch of pictures linked together in order to tell a story. I think they are used to prove a point in a subject, like a PSA would do. A way to make them are to put them on paper and actually draw them out.

Did you get your pictures taken yesterday? Did you enjoy going on the photo scavenger hunt? Why do you think I had you take those types of pictures?

I did get all my pictures taken yesterday, and I did enjoy going on the photo scavenger hunt. I liked this activity because you had to think outside of the box in order to find things that matched the description. I think you had us take those type of pictures so we could be familiar with the different types of pictures.

What do you know about photography? When you take pictures what kind of camera do you use? Do you use your cell phone? Do you own a digital camera that is not your cell phone? Explain.

I don't know anything about photography except for the fact that it involves taking pictures. When I take pictures I used to use my digital camera, but then I got a phone so now I use the camera on my phone. I own at least two digital cameras, but I don't know what type they are. I don't really use my digital cameras now because I find it easier to develop and send pictures when they are on my phone.

Welcome back! How was your Spring Break? Tell me all about it. You've been out of school for 10 days so I know you will have plenty to share. Make it good!

Over spring break I went to Denver. While I was in Denver I went to an Imagine Dragons concert, which as really amazing. Also when I was in Denver I watched a lo of movie because my dad's friend found a website where you can watch recent movies that have come out and movies still in theaters for free.  The day before we left my family and I went bowling. This was really fun because I made it a little bit of a competition between me and Ruth. We played two games, and on the first one I beat her by over 20 points, and then in the second game I beat all my sisters because I got 109 points. The second half of spring break I watched a lot of Law and Order SVU with my sister, and went shopping. I also went to swim practice, which was everyday but Sunday at 8-10:30 in the morning!

Prepare yourself... I want you to really THINK about this blog post. I mean really use your brain. What is the significance of an infographic? What is the point of pairing graphics and information together? What impact can this have on a reader or viewer. EXPLAIN.

The significance of an infographic is to show readers or viewers information in a new way. If someone doesn't learn very well with just reading a two page paper, then they can look at a infographic, where information is separated by category, and there is pictures and color.  The point of pairing graphics and infographics together is to provide another way for information to be seen or read. The statistics are not written like they would be in a paper, but rather they are put in a graph with different colors, that is easy to see. The impact that it can have on a reader is that they can take in a lot of information at once without being overwhelmed. They can do this because everything is separated, there is color, pictures, and icons that all help the information be read easily.

Infographic

Tuesday, March 4

If you had the option of writing a 3 page paper or creating an infographic - which one would you choose? Explain yourself.

If I had to write a 3 page paper or create an infographic I would rather create an infographic. I would rather create an infographic because then it is more colorful and easier to read than a long boring paper.

How far along are you on your infographic? Will you be finished and ready to embed on to your blog by the end of the hour today? Do you think you've used your time wisely in class? Explain yourself.

I am halfway finished with my infographic. I don't think that I will be ready to embed it on my blog by the end of the hour today because I still have to add some information in, and then I have to put finishing details in. I think I have used my time wisely because the time that I did talk, it was about my infographic.

Thursday, February 27

Why do I have you brainstorm and collect your information in a Google Doc before putting in to final draft? Explain.

We collect information in Google Docs before we get started on a project because then all the information is in one place. This makes it easier to do a project or make  a final draft because then we don't have to keep searching for information while we are working on a project. Also it makes it easier to put it together quickly because all the information is in one spot.

Yesterday I introduced you to infographics... tell me again what they are and how they are used? What is the benefit of an infographic? What goes into an infogrpahic?

An infographic is an easy way to display and read information. Some benefits of an infographic are being able to see all the information on a topic in one spot, being able to read the information easily, and being able to see the information visually with color and pictures. Some things that are put in an infographic are pictures, color, step by step processes, interesting facts, icons, and tips.

Post your research paper to your blog. Give me a short (one paragraph summary) of your paper and include the link for me read your paper. Make sure you link up words! Do NOT copy and paste the ugly link. This should not be foreign to you.

This global issue paper is all about cancer. In this paper there are the main causes, effects, and treatments of cancer. Some main causes of cancer are radiation exposure, exposure to sunlight, or it could be in your genes. Some main side effects of cancer are nausea, vomiting, pain, and cramping. The three main treatments of cancer are surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.

Where are you at with your 5 paragraph essay so far? How is it coming? Is it easy to write? Difficult to write? Is it helpful that you created an outline first? Explain.

I am on my fourth paragraph for my essay about cancer. It's coming along, and it's not very difficult to write because I have all my information in one spot. It is very helpful that we made the outline first because it makes writing your essay faster and easier. It makes typing it faster and easier because all of my information is in one spot and easy to read.

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend. If you didn't go to Sweetheart, what did you do? I want details!

Over the weekend I did not go to Sweetheart. Instead, I went to the Winter Jam concert at the Sprint center Friday night, hung out with friends, Saturday night, and watched the Superbowl on Sunday. The Winter Jam was really fun because we were all in a suite, and had snacks and drinks in there. On Saturday a whole bunch of my friends and I went out to eat at Mi Ranchito and afterwards we went bowling and miniature golfing. Bowling was really fun because I ended with a higher score than Ruth. On Sunday I watched the Superbowl, and ended up really disappointed in the Broncos. It ended being up a really depressing game because the Broncos lost by over 40 points.

Who do you look up to in life? Why? What have they done to help you or guide you?

I look up to my mom in life. I look up to my mom because shes always there when I need help or advice on something. My mom used to help me with my homework when I needed help and she picks me up after school when I decide to stay after school. I also look up to my mom because she manages to have four kids-each in some-sort of activity or sport, and she has to work. She manages to balance both of these thing in her life and this is what I love about her.

Tell me about the global issue you selected yesterday.

The global issue I picked was cancer. I picked this because I really wanted to learn more about it because if another person gets cancer in my family then I will know what is really going on in their body. I only know about cancer in children because I did a Biology project on it a couple weeks ago. Cancer is one thing that I think people shouldn't get diagnosed with because they didn't do anything to deserve getting their life shortened/limited.

Public Service Announcement

Monday, January 27

If you could pick one issue in the world to fix or change what would it be and why?

If I could pick one issue in the world to fix, I would want to find a cure to cancer. I would want to find a cure to cancer because thousands of people are/have died from it, and I don't think that it is fair for them to have a shortened life. Not only adults are affected by cancer, but children are too, and I really think that it is unfair for children to get diagnosed with cancer, and then be worried the rest of their life that it might come back. Nobody who is diagnosed with cancer deserves to get it and have to be worried about it for the rest of their life.

What is a Public Service Announcement? If you don't know what it is, Google it. In your own words, now tell me what it is? What are they used for? Can you recall an example of a PSA you've seen before?

A public service announcement is a short message produced on film, videotape or a DVD. They are used when a nonprofit group of people want to get a message to the media/viewers.  Public service announcements are used for getting people informed about a certain topic. For example there can be a public service announcement over smoking, animal abuse, child abuse, or bullying. I have seen a PSA over no texting while driving as well as a PSA over animal abuse.

Tell me about your three day weekend. How was it? What did you do? Elaborate!

Over my three day weekend I went to Denver, to see my dad. While I was in Denver I babysat my neighbor, Carlene, while her mom was giving birth to twins. While I watched her we flew kites in a park close to my house and we played on a playground while we were in the park. The next day we watched the Broncos game. My dad and sisters really love the Broncos, so we had a barbecue at our house, and had friends over. Everyone was really excited that the Broncos won, and are going to the Super Bowl. On Monday we went shopping, and I got to go to Gordmans. I really love that store because thy have a variety of things to look at. Monday night my sisters and I all flew back to Kansas City.

What have you learned about Google Drive and Google Presentation so far? What do you like about it? What problems have you run in to? Is it better than PowerPoint?

I have learned that there are things on Google Drive, that are just like word and power point. I have also learned that Google Drive saves things on its own, so I don't have to save it; that s a really helpful asset. O have also learned that you can access Google Drive and all your projects on any computer because it only requires you to log into your gmail. I personally like Google Presentation better because you can add more personal touches to it. For example, you can add a certain color to lines on a slide and you can change colors, fonts, size and backgrounds. You can do all these things in Power Point. but I think it is more simple to do in Google Presentation.

Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it.

I do not agree with this statement. I don not agree with this because if someone posts a picture they might only want certain people to see it. For example if someone posts a picture on Instagram, only their followers can see it, so it is kept more private. Since this person wants this to be private I don't think it is right for someone to be able to use a picture  that someone only wanted certain people to see, or if they wanted to keep it private.

What do you want to learn in the class the semester? What information do you want to walk away with that you didn't know before? Elaborate!

In this class this semester I want to learn how to post and use a blog and learn how to use a computer better. The information that I want to walk away with from this class is how to use the resources that didn't know the computer had.
